At the Atlanta LATINA
Style Business Series on Nov. 18, 2004,
success and inspiration radiated from the
faces of the entrepreneurs and business
owners in attendance. They shared their
stories of success and advice over a
networking breakfast in the exhibit area
before settling down to the opening remarks
of Alba Adamo, international account manager
of the Coca-Cola Company.
The morning was full of useful information
during six workshops. First Terri L.
Denison, district director of the U.S. Small
Business Administration, spoke about SBA
loan programs, followed by Dean W. Andersen,
vice president and investments financial
planning specialist at Citibank, who
addressed the growing numbers and power of
women in business. Genevieve Thomas and Alma
Alvarez, agent and consultant, respectively,
for State Farm Insurance, held a workshop
titled “Protecting Your Most Important
Assets: Business Insurance 101.”
After a short break, attendees returned to
hear Kimberlee Satterfield, a small business
specialist with the U.S. Department of
Housing and Urban Development, discuss
federal procurement opportunities. Martita
Mestey, director of ihispano.com, spoke next
on “Successfully Marketing Your Brand”; and
Jose Ulloa, president of Latinos 2010,
wrapped up the morning workshops with
“Marketing Your Company Through the
Internet.”
Over
lunch, attendees enjoyed the keynote
address of Anna Cablik, president
and CEO of Anasteel & Supply Co.,
who was introduced by Office Depot’s
Karen Jaramillo and Mistress of
Ceremony Tracy Martinez, a reporter
with WSBTV Channel 2 News. Cablik
led her first business, Anatek,
Inc., a contracting company
specializing in highway bridges, to
become one of the largest
Hispanic-owned firms in Georgia. In
1994 she started Anasteel & Supply,
the only Latina-owned
reinforced-steel supplier in the
Southeast. Her story and experiences
made for a powerful and motivational
lunch.
