Dr. Laura Murillo
President & CEO, Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
Although she is best known for her role as President and CEO of the largest Hispanic Chamber in the country, Dr. Murillo is the epitome of a working professional woman due to her commitment in numerous leadership positions. She holds a B.A., a Master’s Degree, and a Ph.D. from the University of Houston, and serves as the Founding President & CEO of the Chamber’s Foundation and The Emerging Leaders Institute. Dr. Murillo is also the Founding Host/Producer for the Chamber’s Television Program on CBS Channel 11, the Chamber’s Spanish Radio Program on Univision America, and the Chamber’s Radio Program on (6) CBS Radio Stations. Additionally, she serves on a variety of Boards, including the University of Houston’s Board of Visitors, Mayor’s Hispanic Advisory Board, The National Museum of American Latinos Host Committee, and the Houston Symphony’s Hispanic Leadership Council. Without a doubt, Dr. Murillo has received many state, national, and international honors including being named among the “Most Powerful & Influential Women in Texas” by the National Diversity Council, “Woman of the Year” by Success Magazine, Houston’s Top 25 People of 2013 by First Class Magazine, and was most recently honored with the Hispanic Leadership Award from the National Football League.
M. Helen Cavazos

M. Helen has an extensive background working in both the private and public sectors in a variety of industries, including retail and transportation. Most recently, she served as Vice President of Human Resources & Chief Diversity Officer for the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Houston, Texas. In addition, Ms. Cavazos has consulted with numerous top 500 companies during her career, as well as in the international arena for a financial services company. Having served on numerous national and local boards of organizations that foster economic and developmental opportunities for women and other diverse groups, including the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board, Ms. Cavazos has received many awards and recognition for her leadership and diversity initiatives. Some include: Hispanic Women in Leadership “Hall of Fame,” Texas Executive Women on the Move, Top 50 Women in Houston, and Multicultural Working Women in Magazine award.
The Business Series will exhibit expert presenters to speak and interact with the audience on the following topics: Accessing Capital: Building Strong Businesses; Women Empowerment through Technology; Healthy Worker – Healthy Business; and Latina Entrepreneurs Spot light: Lessons Learned.
