Latina Style Business Series Returns to New York with Keynote Speaker Soledad O'Brien Washington D.C., June 9, 2010—LATINA Style Magazine, the premier magazine addressing the needs of established Latina & Women entrepreneurs in the U.S., is celebrating one of the events of our 12th Annual LATINA Style Business Series in New York City on July 22, 2010 from 7:30 to 4:30pm.The New York Business Series returns with the much celebrated Luncheon Keynote Speaker Ms. Soledad O’Brien. It will be chaired by Ms. Nereida Perez, Vice President, Inclusion & Diversity of National Grid, and Ms. Jerusha Ramos, Registered Representative of NL Financial Alliance. Since the launch of the series in 1998, the purpose has been to provide the Latina professional and business owner with the tools to strive in the ever-changing business community through interactive panels and workshops held by renowned experts in the field from key corporations and government agencies. This year, join us as we bring to you: “Accessing Capital in Today’s Economy”, “the Essentials of a Successful Business”, “Healthy Worker; Healthy Business”, “Technology Solutions to Increase Business Productivity”, and “Lessons Learned: Latina Entrepreneurs’ Financial Survival Guide”. These workshops will be led by some of the most talented local business leaders who will share inspiring, first-hand accounts of their business success. From the 2000 Census, it was gathered that the Hispanic/Latino community makes up about 16.4% of the total population in New York. In 2002, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, 2002 Economic Census: Survey of Business Owners, 9.6% of the businesses that can be found in the state is Hispanic-owned. These Hispanic-owned businesses brought in approximately $12,325,955 in revenue. Keynote Speaker, Soledad O’Brien, is the highly-acclaimed anchor and special corresponded for CNN/US. A graduate from Harvard, she began her career as associate producer and news writer in Boston for NBC News. Since her transition to CNN, O’Brien has led and participated in groundbreaking news programming that include Latino in America, Black in America, Children of the Storm Project, and One Crime at a Time. She has received countless awards for her leadership and humanitarian efforts, such as the President’s Award given to her by the NAACP in 2007, The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Goodermote Humanitarian Award in 2008, and the 2009 Medallion of Excellence for Leadership and Community Service awarded to her by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, to name a few.
